Bunnahabhain Scotch Whisky
Bunnahabhain Scotch whisky distillery was established in 1881 by local farmers, the Greenlees Brothers. The distillery went into production in 1883 under the trading name of The Islay Distillery Company.
The distillery is the most northerly distillery on the island, facing The Isle of Jura across the Sound of Islay.
During 1887 The Islay Distillery Company amalgamated with Glenrothes - Glenlivit to form the Highland Distilleries Co.
The Distillery was expanded in 1963 with a second pair of stills added.
Often regarded as the lightest of the Islay whiskies, this may be due to the fact that the water used is drawn from an underground spring before being piped directly to the distillery without running through peat.
