Glen Scotia Scotch Whisky
Glen Scotia Scotch whisky distillery was founded in 1832 by Stewart Galbraith.
In 1919 West Highland Malt Distilleries Ltd purchased the distillery.
The distillery is reported to be haunted by a previous owner; Duncan MacCallum who bought the distillery in 1924. He drowned himself in Campbeltown Loch in 1930 after discovering swindlers had tricked him out of a large sum of money.
In 1954 the distillery was acquired by Hiram Walker who in 1955 sold it on to A. Gillies & Co which became part of Amalgamated Distilled Products Ltd in 1970.
£1million was spent upgrading the distillery between 1979 and 1982. However it was closed in 1984 then reopened by Gibson International in 1989, they then went into receivership later that year.
The distillery was acquired from receivership in 1994 by Glen Catrine and mothballed until 1996 when some distillation restarted.
Glen Scotia is now owned by the Loch Lomond Distillery Company through its subsidiary company Glen Catrine.
