Old Pulteney Scotch Whisky
Old Pulteney Scotch whisky distillery was established by James Henderson in 1826 in the town of Wick. It is the most northerly distillery on mainland and at the time was only accessible by sea. The barley was brought in and the whisky shipped out by boat.
The distillery continues to operate using the same traditional distilling methods first introduced in the 1800’s and takes its water from The Loch of Hempriggs.
The distillery produced no whisky from 1930 until it was bought in 1951 by Robert Cumming. In 1955 it was resold to a subsidiary of Hiram Walker & Sons.
The distillery was rebuilt in 1958.
In 1995 the distillery was purchased by its present owners Inverhouse Distillers Ltd.
